It is with a heavy heart that we announce Kevin Honeman has passed away.

We recently received some sad news about one of our volunteers to our Pure Stoke kids camps.  Kevin Honeman recently passed away from his own battle with cancer.  Kevin was a big fan of what we do and we really connected with him even though we did not get to spend a lot of time with him.  Below is Kevin’s obituary where, at Kevin’s request, he asked people to donate to Surfing For Hope in lieu of flowers at his funeral.  Through our website, we received over two dozen donations from Kevin’s family and friends.  Thank you Kevin!

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Kevin Honeman, 28, of Grants Pass Oregon, has passed away. Kevin, born April 14, 1992, fought a long, private battle with cancer, and died on October 24, 2020, in his home, surrounded by his family.

Kevin graduated from the University of Kansas in 2014, and went to work at Ray Allen, Inc. in downtown Chicago. After a few short years, Kevin felt he wanted to explore more. In 2017, he traveled to El Salvador, on a health and wellness retreat. It was there that he tried surfing for the first time. In July 2018, Kevin decided to move out to Grants Pass, Oregon and went to work for a company called Epoch Farms. With his natural likeability and approachable attitude, Kevin quickly became one of their best salesmen. Kevin loved the mountain life. He was grateful 24/7/365. He would often drive out to the coast or go on a hike by himself, spending the day or the weekend, by himself, taking it all in.

Kevin would not want us to think about the years he did not live. He would want us to smile on the years he did. He lived life more in tune with himself than most of us do.

The past two years have been a battle, but his family and friends will always remember Kevin’s beautiful life. He lived life on his own terms, with a desire to experience it fully. Kevin will live on through his loving father, Dan Honeman (Janina Lach), his brother and best friend, Wes Honeman (Tereza Iljazi), and his devoted girlfriend, Madalyn Snyder. He will always be remembered by his aunts and uncles, Don (Sandy) Van Eycke, Kate Van Eycke, Barbara (Bob) Purdy, Leanne (Todd) Erickson, Tim (Teresa) Honeman; and his cousins Brian Van Eycke (CJ Rock), Andy (Michelle) Van Eycke, Shane McFarland, Karen (Todd) McKelvey, Kristen (Bruce) Chandler, Kit (Gina) Purdy, Jessie Honeman, and so many other friends and family.

Kevin was predeceased by his loving mother, Debra Ann Honeman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Surfing for Hope https://surfingforhope.org/. This is an organization that Kevin volunteered for, that was created to help ease the difficulty of cancer through the healing powers of surfing and the ocean life. Two things that Kevin loved in life. Grace and love win, not cancer. #F*ckCancer #keephammering #kevinfromheaven
